Councilman Elton LaGasse said it was too early to determine how much damage had been done to Jefferson Parish schools, but estimated that repairing damage and finding enough teachers to hold classes could delay the opening of school for two months after Labor Day.
FINDING ENOUGH TEACHERS TO HOLD CLASSES!? I guess they mean all the teachers are leaving, because I know I am. Oh my gosh.
So I've found six different teachers, via text messages. Maria, Schafer, and Melissa are in Lafayette. Miriam and Cagle are in Baton Rouge. Flattmann is in Thibodeaux. Miklo is in Zachary. I can't find Melanie Dietz though, I'm sure she left Chalmette, but I would feel a whole lot better if I KNEW she was okay. I also wish I had more people from works phone numbers so I can just know that they are all safe.
If anyone hears anything about Gretna, specifically Friedrichs Court, Whitney Ave, Cooper Rd, Hancock St, Stumpf Blvd, or William Hart Elementary then please post. I'm worried about my kids that didn't have transportation out. I heard the westbank faired well compared to everybody else, but I would still feel better knowing that my kids are out of harms way and accounted for.
I'm fine. Scared. But fine. I'm going to have to start looking for another job. I don't even know if I'm going to get paid between now and when school starts up. This is crazy.
